Why do people hire a personal trainer?
I have personal trained for 1000s of hours for the past 4 years. Everyone's reason for hiring a trainer is different.
Some do it for accountability because they won't workout on their own. Some do it because they don't know what to do(How to set up their workouts, what exercises to do, how to eat, how to progress, etc), some do it to save time/energy(Clients who are very busy like doctors, business owners, dentists, etc and they would rather hire me to schedule and program for them so they don't need to think about what to do when they go workout). Sky is the limit when it comes to why people hire a trainer!
Do you need a trainer? Absolutely not! There are so many resources out there to show you how to get the results when it comes to health and fitness. But that can also be a reason to hire a trainer because there is TOO MUCH information out there confusing everyone.
But in reality, personal training is a luxury but can be viewed as a necessity to some. I won’t generalize everyone but there are probably a lot of people who spend a lot more money than they think on non essentials, but when it comes to pulling the trigger on something like personal training they are hesitant. Why is that? They hear anything over $300 and immediately that is too expensive. But why? Let’s put this into perspective, say I have a client who pays me $5000 a year. And they make $60,000 a year. That is quite a bit of cash still left over. So why the hesitation still? People may have a lot of expenses, think it’s not worth it, or have another reason. But if people will spend $500-$1000 a month on eating out, or a car payment or random non essential things they do not need…is spending $5000 a year worth it to live a better quality of life?(Who knows, maybe spending that $5000 will give you the tools make more money in the future because you have become a WAY better version of yourself). A TON of people including myself spend more than we like to admit on random things we DO NOT NEED! You know what is expensive though…not being able to keep up with your kids, medical bills, feeling like you are not enough. Fitness and exercise play a crucial role in life for more than just the aesthetics. For the majority I would say it is more about the health and less about how you look. And hiring a trainer slingshots you on a trajectory for a better quality of life and saves you a ton of time trying to figure this thing out on your own.
WHAT CAN FITNESS HELP ME WITH? General exercise can help you emotionally, mentally and physically! It is not only the looks. For a lot of people it can be a stress reliever, will energize you more for the day if you train in the morning, it can build confidence and of course the physical side which will help you move better, feel better, do sports well if you play sports, keep up with kids or your spouse! I have experienced ALL of these! The quality of life is drastically increased with proper exercise and nutrition.
Most of my clients have been with me for years, which shows what a benefit it can be to many! Otherwise, they wouldn’t continue with this. At least I hope that is the reason!
For the record, I am not telling people what they should spend their money on. Meraly putting it into perspective on a larger scale and showing the mindset shift that may be worth having for some people. The way we think and the decisions we make are generally for a reason, and it is good to think WHY we make decisions…especially ones that can be life changing!
